Ah, the gym. A place where you can get fit, build muscle, and maybe even meet some like-minded individuals. Unfortunately, it's also a place where some guys think it's okay to be a total creep. You know the type - they stare a little too long, make inappropriate comments, and generally make everyone else uncomfortable. If you want to avoid being "that guy," here's a handy guide:
1. Don't stare.
Yes, we get it. There are some very attractive people at the gym. But staring is just plain creepy. So don't be "that guy" and do what you came there to do. Focus on yourself, not the other people around you.
2. Don't make inappropriate comments.
No, she doesn't want to hear about how good she looks in those leggings. And no, he doesn't want to hear about your "sick gains." Keep your thoughts to yourself and focus on your workout.
3. Don't invade personal space.
We all need our personal space, especially at the gym. Don't hover around someone, stand too close, or touch them without permission. And if you're working out with a partner, don't be afraid to speak up if they're making you uncomfortable.
4. Don't flex in the mirror.
Yes, we know you're proud of your muscles. But flexing in the mirror for extended periods of time is just weird. Plus, it's taking up valuable mirror space that could be used by someone who actually needs it.
5. Don't hog equipment.
There's nothing more annoying than someone who camps out on a piece of equipment for half an hour. If you're using a machine or bench, be considerate and let others work in between sets.
6. Don't skip the deodorant.
Nobody wants to smell your body odor. Make sure to wear deodorant and take a shower before hitting the gym. And if you forget, don't be afraid to use the provided wipes or spray.
7. Don't take creepshots.
Taking photos of someone without their consent is a serious violation of their privacy. Not only is it creepy, it's also illegal. If you really want a photo, ask for permission first.
By following these simple guidelines, you can avoid being "that guy" and make the gym a better place for everyone. Plus, you might even make some new friends in the process.
Happy lifting!
